Activate Windows 10 or 11 Pro: KeyRiva Setup & Activation Guide

Before You Activate Windows

Activation is easiest when the Windows edition already installed on your computer matches the product key you purchased.

  • Confirm whether your PC is running Windows 10 or Windows 11.
  • Check whether the installed edition is Home or Pro.
  • Keep your KeyRiva product key and order details available.
  • Connect the computer to a stable internet connection.
  • Install pending system updates where practical before troubleshooting activation.
Important — check Home vs Pro first.
If your PC currently runs Windows Home but you purchased a Windows Pro license, you may need to upgrade the installed edition to Pro before completing normal Pro activation. Do not repeatedly enter the same key if the installed edition does not match.

First: Check Which Windows Edition Is Installed

Windows 11

Settings → System → Activation

On the Activation page, check the edition and current activation status. For this guide, the target edition is Windows 11 Pro.

Windows 10

Settings → Update & Security → Activation

Check that Windows 10 Pro is installed before using a Windows 10 Pro product key.

Windows Pro Activation — Step by Step

Once you have confirmed the correct edition, follow these steps.

Open the Activation Page

Windows 11:

Settings → System → Activation

Windows 10:

Settings → Update & Security → Activation

Choose Change Product Key

Find the option for changing or entering a product key and select Change product key.

Windows will open the activation window where your license key can be entered.

Enter Your 25-Character Key

A standard Windows product key uses this format:

XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Enter the product key supplied with your order carefully. Check every character before continuing.

For security, never publish your complete product key in a public forum, review, comment or screenshot.

Continue With Online Activation

Select Next and continue with the activation option shown by Windows.

Keep the computer connected to the internet while Windows verifies the product key and activation status.

Confirm Your Activation Status

Once the process finishes, return to the Activation page.

Check that Windows now reports an activated status.

Done? If the Activation page confirms that Windows is activated, you do not need to enter the product key again.

Use the official Windows software-download resources rather than unknown third-party ISO or installation websites.

Windows 10 notice: Windows 10 reached the end of its standard free support and security updates on 14 October 2025. If your hardware supports Windows 11, consider Windows 11 for a currently supported Windows environment.

Already Have Windows Home but Purchased Pro?

This is one of the most common reasons a Windows Pro key does not activate immediately.

If the Activation page shows Windows 10 Home or Windows 11 Home, your computer may first need to change its installed edition to Pro.

Don't keep retrying the Pro key.
Check the installed edition first. If Home is installed, use the appropriate Home-to-Pro upgrade process before completing activation with the applicable Pro license.

Windows Key Not Activating?

Don't assume the product key is invalid immediately. Check these common causes first.

Home / Pro Edition Mismatch A Pro key may not complete normal activation while the installed edition is still Windows Home.
Wrong Windows Version or Edition Confirm that the purchased license matches the Windows edition for which it was sold.
Typing Error Recheck the 25-character key carefully before attempting activation again.
Internet / Activation Service Confirm that the computer has a working internet connection and retry after a short period if the activation service is temporarily unavailable.
Existing License Configuration A previous Windows license, edition change or system configuration may affect activation.
OEM / Device Restrictions OEM and device-bound licenses can have different reactivation or transfer conditions from Retail licenses.
